Cold water therapy - coming in October 2024

What is cold water therapy – Cold water therapy is the practice of using water that is 15 degrees or below to stimulate the body to create health benefits. Typically, you would want to stay submerged for about 5 minutes at a time, this can be built up over sessions as your body gets used to the process.

How does cold water therapy help you:

Release of endorphins – The cold water will stimulate the release of additional endorphins which are the bodies feel good hormones. An increase in endorphins will improve mood so reduce anxiety and depression and can reduce your perception of pain and after a session these hormones increase by between 200-300%.

Activate increase production of Killer T Cells in the body and Lymphocytes that are both cells key to a strong immune response.

When you get into a cold plunge it triggers your body’s metabolism to increase to warm the body back up, this means that your free form fatty acids and glucose are consumed aiding weight loss and supporting insulin resistance in the body helping to reduce the risk of diabetes.

Cardiovascular improvements occur as when you move between cold and hot therapies in particular the blood vessels contract and expand giving the smaller muscles in the body that do not often go to extremes a workout and therefore strengthening the bodies vascular system.

Cold water suppresses the acceleration of disease inflammation and the corelating pain signals that occur when inflammation is present.

Increased mitochondrial biogenesis, cold water therapy increases the production of mitochondria making energy (ATP) in the body.
